Footsore and heartswelled,
I have returned. I just want to say first, last, and officially that I love hitRECord. It’s a part of who I am, and I am dedicated to its future and success. I had an amazing time at Sundance, and can easily say it was the biggest adventure of my life thus far.
There was a bit of rocky badness when we first arrived, but I just want to make it clear that it was due in part to...

Rollercoaster of Sundance
manwithhat:
One of the best first-halves of a day! Got a ride from a wonderful Utahn lady who was a blast and full of information, got to busk and made good money, got to record for Mr. Nathan Johnson, got to meet all of the wonderful people I’ve been working with over the past year.
Followed by one of the top five worst evenings of my life! Forced to sleep in a bus station, worn by...

I’ve come to the decision that I do not have lucky underwear.
– My brother, ManWithHat. He was wearing the supposedly lucky underwear yesterday, when we lost our place to stay and ended up sleeping in the bus station. But we also made bank busking and got to collaborate with Nathan, so maybe Lucky Underpants just work in mysterious ways?

glueslabs:
Creating a blog is way too damn easy on Tumblr.
Here’s a new one from me: essentially a log of pretty/interesting pictures of places I would like to see in-person. Some of them are places I actually plan to visit, while others are just visually interesting environments (some aren’t even real). Enjoy?
My coworker Jeff has created a blog of really beautiful landscape photos. If you...

I recently started rereading the Charles De Lint novel Someplace To Be Flying, since a short story I’ve been working on (“Rooks and Jays”) has similar themes, and I want to make sure I’m not subconsciously borrowing more than I intended.
The book was written in 1998, and includes a few scenes where the protagonist reads and replies to e-mail. Apparently De Lint was...

At an Ice Cream/Dance Party, 01/16/10
She Sarah: I have perfected the art of sexy clothing removal. I can even take off sneakers in a sexy manner.
Me Sarah: That sounds like quite a feat.
She Sarah: Well, I guess you have a real soul for puns.
Me Sarah: I hope I'm not treading on your patience.
She Sarah: Dammit. That's all I got.
Me Sarah: You could have said, 'Hey, you're toeing the line."
She Sarah: Dammit.
Me Sarah: Yeah, I try to stay on the ball.

ronen asked: Do you prefer your the-color-between-black-and-white with an A or an E ?
I’m sure there’s probably* a storied and bloody battle between hardline prescriptivist and softcore descriptivist grammarians on the issue; but, if so, I’m ignorant of it.
And so I spell it: grey. Because the ‘e’ feels grey to me; whereas the ‘a’ feels, like, you know: gray.
So, like,...

Oh, that this had been one of the many days I have clambered over the Fremont Troll.
It should be noted that fuckyeahthemountaingoats.tumblr.com is totally different from fuckyeahjohndarnielle.tumblr.com, which I started. The former is videos, photos, quotes, lyrics, drawings, etc,...

I dance at a Haitian bar in Seattle called Waid’s Place almost every Tuesday. Last night was unusually somber, as the flat screen behind the bar showed continual news coverage of the earthquake. Waid’s voice broke with tears when he got on the mic and thanked us all for being there that night and showing him something beautiful in the midst of so much tragedy. The bartender, Han, lost...

I usually eat a lot of lunch…a lot. A lot of lunch. Big lunch. Big lunch.
– One of the devs said this after walking into the lunch room while I was making tea. I think he might be on something.

Aw, man. When I hung out with Ronen, the most dangerous thing we did was loiter under a “No Loitering” sign.

Not to mince words, Mr Epstein, but we don’t like your boys’ sound....
– Dick Rowe, an executive in charge of evaluating new talent for the London office of Decca Records in 1962. He invited the Beatles to play for him, let them hang for two weeks, then sent a letter with this as its first line.
Despite being an incredibly bone-headed move, it does contain a very...
