Edit That Shit.

New Seattle ferris wheel on pier 57 to start operating by July!

FUCK YEAH! TAKE IT, LONDON!

Seriously, I had somehow forgotten there was even a carousel on the waterfront until I brought some tourists there a couple years ago, because NO ONE GOES TO THE SEATTLE WATERFRONT BUT TOURISTS and people going to the aquarium. Now they’re adding a friggin’ FERRIS WHEEL! I want to ride this so hard.

A few of the many awesome photos taken by JessyLou D’Aprile of Louography at the Mongrel Jews show at Columbia City Theater this past weekend. By far the swankiest venue we’ve ever played, hence bringing in a bassist and fiddler!

This is one of my more ridiculous songs. Watch me sing it and then try to ineffectually explain why it’s funny! Because that’s exactly how you make things funnier, right?

Also in My Talented Brother news: I convinced him to make a video of my favorite of his songs. It’s bloody hilarious is what it is. Please to watch it.

Check this out, my fellows. My insanely talented little brother is offering to essentially do private shows in your home for nothing more than a meal. You’d normally have to bid $500+ on your favorite artist’s Kickstarter for that sort of privilege!

I can vouch that he is a very talented performer, polite and tidy, and will eat virtually anything. If you live in a place that is reasonably busable from Ballard, you should take him the hell up on this.

Hey everybody! I’m writing here to propose something to The Internet at large.

This year has been an exciting one here at Aaron J. Shay Artistic Productions, Incorporated. As you may know, I’ve not only been working on a new EP, but also a chapbook with an accompanying audiobook, and as always,…

I can’t even believe we’re on this bill. This show is going to be frickin’ fantastic. The Columbia City Theater has definitely been on our list of venues to play, maybe, someday, if we’re lucky.

Buy your tickets now so the venue is suitably impressed!

Is it just me, or does this line-up sound extra Bordertown-y? I know the show will!

Galaxy Gold
(Phone rings)
Me: Hello?
Chapter: Why is the top of the Space Needle painted orange?
Me: When it first opened in 1962 it was painted 'Galaxy Gold' because, y'know, the '60s, and they decided to re-paint it that color for the 50th Anniversary this year.
Chapter: ...Oh!
Me: Did you call me because I know the most about Seattle?
Chapter: No, I just wondered and so I started calling people randomly and asking. Thanks!
Me: I do what I can.
The Mongrel Jews’ first-ever in-person interview is now live at AnotherPassion.com!

I was a freelance music journalist for over five years, and this is the first time I’ve done an interview from this side of the microphone. It was surreal, and wonderful…I don’t remember saying half that stuff, and there are certain things I feel came off differently in stark text than they did when I said them. Them’s the breaks, I suppose!

The Herringbone Society, posing for our version of the classic READ posters of our youth. With some of our favorite books: mine is Jane Lindskold’s Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls, Aaron’s is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, and Esti chose The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

Last summer, I was so fortunate as to be in the band for a live production of a classic Star Trek episode, “This Side of Paradise.” Hello Earth Productions puts on a show every summer in a Seattle park, free to the public. This video has me in the house band, The Redshirts, performing the classic theme song.

Just a few weeks ago, we were invited to perform our show again, at the Emerald City Comic Con. If you’re planning to attend, come see us on Friday or Sunday! (Check the programming page for more details).

UPDATE: Tragically, the show has been canceled. As a consolation prize, please enjoy this ridiculous photo of me and my brother after the show last summer.
