Edit That Shit.

A few of the many awesome photos taken by JessyLou D’Aprile of Louography at the Mongrel Jews show at Columbia City Theater this past weekend. By far the swankiest venue we’ve ever played, hence bringing in a bassist and fiddler!

The Herringbone Society, posing for our version of the classic READ posters of our youth. With some of our favorite books: mine is Jane Lindskold’s Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls, Aaron’s is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, and Esti chose The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

I went down to the Seattle Fishermen’s Terminal a few days ago with my amazingly talented friend JessyLou and her fabulous camera. God, I love being friends with talented people.

Somebody’s in the San Juans. I’d recognize that ferry railing anywhere.

I heard the story of Vivian Maier, a nanny whose amazing photography was only discovered after her death in 2009, some time ago, but I didn’t see any of her work until today. It’s simply amazing - street photography of men, women, and children, candid shots, portraits, self portraits in shadow. It’s hard to say why her work is so excellent, but it clearly is. Perhaps the most amazing thing is that alllegedly, she rarely showed her photgraphs to anyone in life, and didn’t even develop all of them: her work was discovered when her collection was put on auction along with the other contents of a storage unit that had been abandoned upon her death (including 30,000 photos, and many undeveloped rolls of film).

Oh man! I just found out that two of my friends from my ol’ living-in-Michigan, making-zines-and-comic-books, tabling-at-conventions, nerding-out-24-7 days are now Toronto burlesque dancers, and are members of an awesome photography site called NerdGirlPinups.com. Super hot, classy, pinup-style photos of nerd girls in the natural habitats: cosplaying, drawing comics, knitting, hanging out in Police Call Boxes, etc.

If you’re wondering about the last photo, yes. They did a Mario-themed duo-striptease, opening for a local band called The Wild Turkeys. They are my heroes.

Go check out my ladies, Ginger Rigby and Bella Fox, and their nerdy friends!
